Quando Berlino scopre l'Elba
Homelink Exchange with
Scilla / Claudio Corrao - Summer 2011
In June 2011 we exchanged our apartment with Scilla‘s and Claudio‘s apartment on the beautiful island of Elba.
On the evening before going to Elba, Scilla and her partner Domenico invited us to a fantastic dinner at their exquisite home in Livorno. It was great meeting the two, they served a lovely Italian dinner for us. Later, Claudio joined in to talk a little about our exchange (he was going to Berlin the next day with his family). Thanks to all of them for a great evening!
When we arrived on Elba, we got on a taxi to Santa Anna / Bagnaia (35 Euro due to heavy traffic on a Saturday at noon time). We met the housekeeper Gabriella who showed us around. We were impressed by the splendid grounds, the swimming pool, and most of all at the marvellous little apartment houses that fit into the landscape smoothly and are a masterpiece of (landscape) architectural design.
We felt totally at home at the apartment and enjoyed having meals on the terrace, cosy and Mediterranean. We slept very well, it was very quiet. The surrounding gardens are always watered and fresh, so the heat never gets too heavy.
The little bay of Bagnaia is very nice, not so crowded. We enjoyed lovely meals at the LA RUSTICA restaurant (the Spagetti Vongole are great and also the Carcuccio) and elsewhere. Very relaxed! The boat trip to Portoferraio right from the beach is fantastic and shouldn‘t be missed.
There are plenty of different things to see and activities like biking/hiking to explore Elba. A car is very useful. However, there is a bus service from Bagnaia to Portoferraio.
Thanks to the Corrao family for letting us stay at their apartment at Santa Anna!! We hope to come back some time soon. What a wonderful time we had!
Grazie mille
